Using a budget to manage credit card debt

19 June 2008

Has using the credit card online sent you into debt? If so, then it's time to take charge of your finances and work on getting out of credit card debt. This means no more using the credit card online for a bit.

One way of getting out of debt if you've overused the online credit card is to draw up a budget.

Having a budget isn't much fun. But if you stick to it, you'll find yourself out of debt and enjoying more financial freedom.

Here are some budget tips to help you get out of credit card debt:

  • Allow funds for leisure activities - if you don't allow money for fun stuff, then you'll have trouble sticking to your budget.
  • Put aside money for savings, but be reasonable with the amount - don't cut money from other vital areas just to make sure it goes in your savings account.
  • Don't overuse credit cards - try to use cash where possible.
  • Pay more than the monthly minimum on debts - debts will be paid off faster.
  • Have emergency savings - have some money set aside in case an emergency occurs.
  • Live within your means.
